1. How can my business become a part of Shop City UK?

Applying for an e-commerce website for your business is a simple process. You can apply online or download an application form which can be faxed or mailed to us.

2. How soon after my application is accepted will my website be available?

In most cases, an entry level website is up and running within five (5) business days following application approval.

3. Do I have to know anything about computers, websites or the internet?

No. We handle the entire process of creating the website, setting up the online order facility and implementing the submitted order delivery mechanism. If you so choose, you will never have to go near a computer. Simply process your submitted website orders as they arrive at your office via fax!

4. Do I have to setup the content of my website myself?

No. You simply provide us with a brief written description of your business together with brief details of each of the products you wish to feature on the website. You can post these details with your application, or if you wish, fax or email them to us. You may also apply online and include these details with the online application.

5. How will I receive orders placed on my website?

On application you can elect to receive orders by either fax or email. Once an order is submitted via the ordering facility on your website, it will be automatically transmitted to you via fax or email.

6. What is Bandwidth?

Bandwidth can be described as the amount of data that can be transferred in a given period of time. In our case the fixed time period is one month and commences from the first day to the last day of every month.

Someone viewing your home page (or any page on your site) causes an amount of data (the content of the page) to be transferred from the website server down to the computer the person is using to browse your website. The more times pages are viewed by people browsing your website, the more Bandwidth your website consumes.

An easy analogy of your bandwidth quota is to think of it as a cake. Every time a request is made for a page on your website you give out a little piece of this cake. If you reach your bandwidth quota (i.e. run out of cake) then you will be charged for the excessive bandwidth you incur (i.e. you will have to pay for more cake).

7. How much Bandwidth am I allowed?

Within the annual service charge for your website an allowance is made for appoximately 400 website page views per day (approx. 12,000 page views per month). This is deemed to be a typical average for a small retailer's website.

8. What is excessive Bandwidth consumption?

If your website consistently consumes more Bandwidth than the average allowance (400 page views per day) you will be charged an additional monthly service fee for the excessive Bandwidth consumption.

9. How much will I be charged for excessive Bandwidth consumption?

If your website consistently consumes more Bandwidth than the average allowance (400 page views per day) you will be charged an additional monthly service fee of £1.00 per each 800 pages viewed in excess of the average monthly allowance.
